Position Summary:
The Audio Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all audio equipment used in onboard entertainment venues, theatres, lounges, and special events. They ensure high-quality sound for live performances, production shows, presentations, and guest activities. The onboard Audio Technician works closely with performers, entertainment staff, and technical teams to deliver seamless productions and an exceptional guest experience, while maintaining all audio systems in optimal working condition.
Key Responsibilities:
Audio Operations & Mixing - Operate and mix live audio for a wide variety of performances including production shows, live bands, solo musicians, and guest entertainers. Ensure consistent, high-quality sound reinforcement across all venues, adapting to different performance styles and technical requirements.
System Management & Maintenance - Oversee the daily operation, calibration, and maintenance of all onboard audio systems, including digital and analog consoles, wireless microphone systems, in-ear monitors, playback systems, and speaker arrays.
Show Preparation & Execution - Collaborate with the Production Manager – Audio and Entertainment Technical team to prepare for each performance. This includes loading and programming show files, conducting sound checks, setting up microphones and monitors, and ensuring all audio cues are executed accurately during live shows.
Technical Collaboration - Work closely with lighting, video, automation, and stage management teams to coordinate technical elements and ensure cohesive production values.
Equipment Inventory & Documentation - Maintain accurate records of all audio equipment, including inventory tracking, maintenance logs, and system configurations.
Guest Experience & Quality Control - Monitor and evaluate the audio quality of all performances from the audience perspective. Make real-time adjustments as needed to ensure an immersive and enjoyable experience for guests.
Compliance & Safety - Adhere to all company policies, maritime regulations, and safety protocols. Ensure that all audio operations are conducted in a safe and compliant manner, including proper cable management, equipment handling, and emergency procedures.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
Proficient in live audio mixing using Midas digital consoles and managing Meyer Sound and Apogee speaker systems, with working knowledge of wireless mic coordination, Green Hippo media servers, and integration with lighting and multimedia systems such as MA Lighting and Flying Pig Systems.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues under pressure.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to work effectively in a multicultural, fast-paced environment.
Experience supervising or mentoring junior technicians is a plus.
Understanding of safety protocols related to live entertainment and maritime operations.
Non-Negotiable Requirements:
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in live audio production, preferably in a theatrical, touring, or cruise ship environment.
Strongly Preferred:
Degree or diploma in Audio Engineering, Technical Theater, or a related field preferred; manufacturer certifications are a plus.
Contract Details:
6/2 (continual rotations of 6 months on-board followed by 2 months of vacation).
